The story of the PlayStation 2 has been told many times before. The console sold well at the beginning as a cheap DVD Player, and later became popular due to the amount of good games releasing left and right.

When the console arrived to the US, they were half of the original shipment with 500,000 unit instead of 1 million. shortage happened during the first year and eased up with time while more games are getting released and more demand for console itself.

You may think Sony had a bad time with the console and didn’t know what to do to resolve this problem, but remember: Sony had just release the PS One and the line-up for their first generation PlayStation was still going strong throughout the year of 2000.

A cheap new design of their first generation console with some moderate tweaks to fix some originally baked flaws, a vastly big library of games with a lot of them being very cheap at the time, and lets not forget the new Dual Shock controller; Made it a decent back-up plan for Sony to provide games while trying to figure out what they could do at the time to produce more PlayStation 2s.

PS2 Sales 2000 around 6.4 million
PS1 Sales around 7.79 million

The PlayStation 1 was very successful in the year 2000, and probably was a great gift during its Christmas season being cheap good purchase all around Hardware and Software wise. It was also lucky enough to be the backbone for the PlayStation 2 to gain it’s strength and weights during it’s early days.
